Rag Curlin'

For my recent trip to the Edwardian Ball I wanted old-fashioned, natural looking curls. Curling irons are great, but the spirals are just too uniform for me and my straight hair doesn't like keeping the shape for very long. By using an old technique and letting it dry rolled up, my hair not only looked natural and amazinnnggg, but it held all the way through the next day! The additional pros are that it's cheap/free (you can use rags, cut up old shirts, nylons, socks, or even paper bags!) and doesn't damage your hair!

Here's a how-to video you can follow to get the basic idea of rolling your hair, but you can experiment with curl size and the way you twist it up for different effects! For my look I did about 12 rolls and twisted the strands a bit before wrapping it up.

  1. I am so tempted to do this, I've been wanting to try it forever! I wonder how my hair (aka Bianca) will take to this... she isn't fond of holding curls and will fight me every step of the way.

  2. Your hair is straighter than mine (ironic)... but mine isn't fond of curling much either. I'm sure if would work on you! Maybe just add a little hairspray or gel or something to it before you roll it?

  3. Maybe a little setting lotion? I used that stuff when I did finger waves once and it was craazy hold and not crispy when just a little was used.

  4. Hay Gurls, so I totally did rag curls last night and they are SUPER easy! Of course, they don't look like Heathers because my hair is oh, a good 2 1/2 feet shorter than hers, but it's still super cute. I rocked the look to work so it's totally do-able on a normal day!
