May Birchbox Review & Contest

I feel like I should be ringing bells or banging gongs right about now. I've been looking forward to the Gossip Girl themed Birchbox for weeks, and now it's here! The best part is..... It's contest time! Whoreders will be giving one lucky reader a 3 month subscription to Birchbox!

Here's what you need to do: leave a comment on this post telling us about your favorite beauty product. That's it! Easy as leave-in conditioner, my friends. Make sure to sign in when leaving your comment (either to Blogger, Google, etc.) so we can get in touch with you. The contest will be end at 11:59 pm (PST) on May 31st, and there is one entry per person (duplicates will be taken out of the drawing). The winner will be announced on June 1st in a blog post and on our Facebook page, so keep those lovely peepers peeled!

P.S. If you already have a Birchbox subscription, we'll give you a $30 gift certificate to use on anything your heart desires. This contest is brought to you by Whoreders, and is not sponsored by or affiliated with Birchbox.

Woo! Are you excited?! Let's dig into this Gossip Girl box and see what we've got!

Algenist Firming & Lifting Cream - $94, 64 ml
SCIENCE!  That's the secret behind this anti-aging cream, and the company says you may be able to see results in as little as ten days. I'm only on day three, so I'll remain cautiously optimistic. The idea behind the product is to increase the production of three essential proteins we lose with aging, elastin, collagen, and proteoglycans. I've been using it at night on my face and neck (my neck is my new skin obsession, fyi), and it's way too early to say if it's made any difference. But so far, it feels nice, and there's no greasy feeling or weird odors. It's a pricey product, and I'm not sure I'd be willing to fork over that much unless it made a huge impact. I'd rather spend $100 per month on regular facials.

Keratase Age Premium Masque Substantif - $60, 200 ml
I love hair masques/masks! I was in Colorado (on biz-ness) all last week, and although the weather was gorgeous (for real, like mind-blowing), it was so dry! I used the Keratase masque over the weekend to bring some life back into my dry, ridiculously long locks. Seriously, guys, I need a haircut. My hair was super shiny and bouncy afterward, but there was one thing that was sort of annoying... You have to step out of the shower, towel dry your hair, apply the masque, wait 5-10 minutes, then get back into the shower to rinse it off. I'd probably just slather it on my hair and let it sit while I shaved my legs or scrubbed the rest of my filthy self rather than step out, wait, then back into the shower. I got things to do, okay!

Keratase Age Premium Bain Substantif - $36, 250 ml
When I first saw that this was an anti-aging shampoo, I had a barooo moment.  Dog people will get that, everyone else, just click on that link. The idea here is that as we age, our hair tends to get thinner, break easier and loses its oomph. Our scalps can get drier as well, leaving us with dull, tired looking hair. Okay, the things I do for you guys... I don't have an issue with thinning hair (*knock wood*). In fact, my hair is sort of a beast, and products that thicken hair can turn it into a mass of follicles that no brush can penetrate. So I used a teeny tiny amount, and was spared a hair nightmare. The lather is super thick and does feel nice, and I'd recommend it to someone concerned with some thinning.

Miss Doir
I'm already in love with Miss Dior perfume, it's so feminine and delicate without being cloying or overwhelming. You can order it directly from Dior here, and get yourself free ground shipping by using the code BIRCHBOX. There are different formulas, but I've always preferred eau de parfum over eau de toilette. It's more expensive, BUT, you get more for your money since it's much more concentrated. You'll use less per application, and the scent will last longer on your skin, so I think it's worth the extra cost.

Dior Diorshow Extase Mascara - $28.50
We've discussed what a mascara nut I am, but this one has blown me away. My lashes are so stubbornly straight, it takes a strong formula to beat them into submission. My favorite Fiberwig LX lost some points with me when their formula changed slightly, and no longer held a curl. Since then, I've been searching high and low looking for one mascara that would satisfy my crazy expectations. I've had some moderate success, but nothing like this! Mascaras are tough to sample, because sometimes the brush is part of the magic - it's not quite the same applying it with a sample brush. But Diorshow Extase came with a full size brush head in a sample size tube, and it's shot to #1 in my mascara lovin' heart. I've already placed my order for a full size tube! Same deal as with Miss Dior, you can order it directly from Dior (available in black, brown or plum) and use the code BIRCHBOX to get free ground shipping.

Birchbox also included a cute blank note card to use, but I used it before I could remember to snap a photo of it! Waaah!

So let's have it, I want to hear all about your favorite beauty products!  Leave a comment on this post and get yourself into the running for a 3 month subscription to  Birchbox! Don't forget to sign in or create a login so we can find you if you've won. You can use Blogger, Google, LiveJournal, etc., comments that show us as "Anonymous" won't be counted, since it'll be almost impossible to confirm who wrote them. Good luck! Contest ends May 31st at 11:59 pm PST.

  3. I absolutely loooove any kind of lip tint. It's pretty safe to say i'm as lazy as they get in the makeup division lol so I'm up for anything "long lasting". lip tint has been a life-saver in terms of giving my lips a nice color all or most of the day.

My current lip tint obsession is Posie tint by Benefit. Ahhhh-mazing :)

  14. I've tried just about every type of mascara available, high end, drugstore, cult brands and my holy grail mascara that I keep going back to is L'Oreal Double Extend Beauty Tubes Mascara. It adds a ridiculous amount of length and volume, never flakes or runs and comes off easily without pulling out precious eyelashes. I buy tubes for friends to try, that's how much I love it.
