Cheap Thrills: Bottoms Up!

Let's crack the bubbly and pour ourselves a glass of Christmas cheer! I'm so excited for holiday drinks, we're doing Cheap Thrills a day early this week. Many of us will be giving and receiving some adult goodies, nothing that will make us blush - I'm talking adult beverages and all the goodies that go along with them. We've worked hard all year, and it's time to let our hair down and raise our glasses, so let's see what I've dug up to serve as inspiration.

Hangar One Vodka (assorted flavors) - $29.99 - $32.99 BevMo
A friend of mine recently introduced me to Hangar One Vodka, and I'm eternally grateful! Last week I was driving on the  101, heading to L.A. for some serious shopping, when I saw the Hangar One van, I squealed like a kid seeing Santa Claus. The only other vehicle that gets me that worked up is the Oscar Meyer Wienermobile. I've only seen Hangar One sold at BevMo (so far), and the flavors available range from store to store. Hangar One has the following available (I've sampled three so far, and am working my way towards the rest): Straight, Citron, Kaffir Lime, Mandarin Blossom, Raspberry, Spiced Pear and Chipotle. A bottle would be great to bring to a party or to gift to the vodka aficionado in your life (me).

Chimay Gift Pack - $17.99 BevMo
This 3-bottle gift pack of Chimay is available only around the holidays, so grab it while you can! It comes with a big 'ol goblet and three bottles of Chimay: Rouge (red), Bleue (blue), and Blanche (white). If you've got someone on your Christmas list who already likes Chimay or is into trying different beers and ales, this is a great gift for under $20.

Luckey Bottle Opener - $5.95 Neatoshop
A fun stocking stuffer for the drinker in your life! I've seen these at the checkout aisle at BevMo as well, but Neatoshop.com had the best price I found. It's a bottle opener in the shape of a key, and it'll fit right on your keyring and blend in with your other keys.

Cell Phone Flask - $7.99 Buy.com
You know you know someone who would love this, admit it. If only they had one in the shape of a T-Mobile Sidekick! Your booze hound can carry about 5oz. of their favorite hooch in this sucker, and sneak a quick drink almost anywhere. A clandestine cocktail during church, a stiff slug during a boring PowerPoint presentation, you get the idea.

And now, for the pièce de résistance, the CVS holiday boozy bargains! Over the last couple of years I noticed that CVS has some great deals on alcohol, but they bring out the big guns during the Christmas season. I went to my local CVS to scope out their offerings and was completely overwhelmed (in a good way) by their deals.

It seems like most items were on sale, high end to low end and everything in between. With so many specials, I couldn't post pictures of all of them, so I went with this really trippy limited edition bottle of Svedka Vodka, on sale for $9.99 (regularly $12.99), but it's the tip of the iceberg, folks.

The above list is just a sampling of what they've got, the sets vary by store so check your local CVS to see which sets they're offering!

Wines: I didn't even bother to make a list, since as you can see from the photo above, EVERYTHING was on sale. I'm not kidding, every single wine on the shelf had a sale tag hanging in front of it. (Click the photo to enlarge it and see for yourself!) Champagne too! CVS offers 10% off when you purchase 6 or more 750ml bottles of wine, so stock up now!

I compared CVS prices with those at BevMo, and they were similar (as long as you're using your club cards), the difference is that you earn valuable coupons at CVS based on your purchases. These coupons and vouchers can be used later (perhaps to treat yourself for being such a generous friend and loved one), so that just edges out the deals at BevMo. Wherever you choose to shop, remember to spend a few minutes doing a little research to save as much as you can. Bottoms up, darlings!
