What the Fluff.


I MADE MARSHMALLOWS.

They're actually very easy to make and they're oh-so-tasty.

Ingredients:

3 envelopes of unflavored gelatin
1 cup cold water
1 1/2 cups sugar
1 cup corn syrup
dash of salt
2 teaspoons vanilla extract

Powder:

Powdered sugar
Cornstarch
Put the gelatin in a mixing bowl and pour half of the cold water over it, setting it aside to soften.

Lightly grease a small square pan and coat with a half and half mixture of powdered sugar and cornstarch. Set aside leftover sugar mixture to be used on the completed marshmallows.
On the stove mix the rest of the cold water, corn syrup and salt, cook over medium heat for a few minutes until hot.

Slowly pour the hot sugar (mmhmmmmm) over the gelatin while you beat it. With a beater.



Continue mixing for a long while until it turns thick, like a jar of marshmallow fluff. Mmmm. At this point you may add your flavoring and mix another minute or two. And yes, that is a bag of mushrooms that we are growing in the background. Jealous?

Immediately pour the fluff into the baking pan to cool for a few hours. Don't wait too long like I did or you will get yummy irregular shaped rejects that you will have to eat by yourself:

Once cool, flip the pan onto a very well powdered counter or cutting board and start slicing! Make sure you generously coat each piece with powder so that they do not stick. As a final touch I sprinkled vanilla sugar all over the top of my marshmallow plate.

I made mine very vanilla, but if you want a more original flavor, just cut the extract back to one teaspoon. You can also experiment with food dye, cocoa powder, and other flavored extracts like peppermint, almond, or anise! So many options!!!

    1. Yea I bought it for the man for Christmas. Finally got around to using it... the mushrooms are sooo good quickly fried in a little butter and salt. Better than meat.
