Do-It-Yourself Beauty Tricks & Treats

It's late September, the first day of Autumn has passed, and Fall is in the air. Fall brings us Thanksgiving, Halloween, Christmas, and for some reason a plethora of birthdays. Because Fall brings all things fun yet costly, I often am so broke by the end of it all that I can't afford the little things that let me keep up with appearances or the things I do to pamper myself.
So what's a broke girl to do? I've been trying out some at home beauty tips and tricks that I like. I know there are tons of options here are some tricks and treats you will fall for. (Get it?)

HAIR:
Apple Cider Vinegar Hair Rinse to CLEAN hair
1 Cup Organic Apple Cider Vinegar
1 Cup water
A few drops of Rosemary Extract (optional)
Mix ingredients together in a hair dye bottle or empty shampoo bottle, and shake. Shampoo hair, and apply mixture when done. Rinse with warm water. This mixture will leave your clean and shiny, and the Rosemary stimulates your scalp and promotes hair growth. You can use this treatment 1 -2 times a week.

Maple Syrup Hair Mask for DRY hair
3 tbsp pure maple syrup
2 tbsp lard
1 tsp honey

Mix together and microwave for about 15-25 seconds, just long enough for all ingredients to melt together. Comb mixture through hair. Wear a shower cap for about 20 minutes because it will be sticky. Shower, rinse, then shampoo.

FACE:
Fresh Pumpkin Mask (now you have something to do with all the goo after you carve pumpkins this year!)
1 Cup Fresh Pumpkin (canned is okay too)
1/2 Cup oatmeal
2 eggs
1 tsp of honey (for dry skin) OR
2 tsp of Organic Apple Cider Vinegar (for oily skin)

Puree pumpkin in blender. Mix in oatmeal oatmeal and eggs. Next put in your honey OR the apple cider vinegar. Put on face and make and leave on for about 20 minutes. This mask is very rejuvenating and refreshing.

Organic Apple Cider Facial Toner
1/2 cup organic apple cider vinegar
1 tea bag (green tea)
1/2 cup of distilled water

Boil tea and steep tea bag for 15-20 minutes. Remove tea bag and let tea cool. Mix 1/2 cup of distilled water and 1/2 cup of apple cider vinegar.Shake well. Now mix in 1/2 cup green tea. Store toner in a mason or other glass jar in the fridge. It will not only help tighten pores, clear up blemishes,  but it is REALLY refreshing!

BODY:
Brown Sugar Scrub
1 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup almond oil
1 tsp Vanilla extract
1 tbsp honey (optional for dry skin)

I use brown sugar because it smells better than cane sugar and it is less abrasive. Mix ingredients in bowl until you have a delicious smelling scrub paste. Shower in warm water and apply generously to skin.
LIPS:
Lip Scrub & Exfoliant
2 tbsp white cane sugar
2-3 tbsp honey
1/2 tsp olive oil

Mix sugar in a bowl with honey until you get gooey paste like consistency. Add in your olive oil and mix again. Apply gently on clean lips with fingertip. Rinse off, and put on your favorite chapsitck. Seriously, Ah-mazing!

HANDS:
Hand massage oil
1/2 cup of olive oil

After you have taken a shower, microwave olive oil in a small bowl for 5-10 seconds, just long enough for it to warm up. Massage the warm oil on your cuticles, nails and hands for soft and moisturized hands.

  1. I love it! I've heard about pumpkin masks you can make at home, but never tried one myself. I'm going to try these this season.
